Introduction to Test Automation
One day
Test automation can increase test execution productivity and coverage. However it is a difficult thing to do and should not be embarked upon lightly. Very many organisations have gained little from their investment in expensive test tools which become shelfware.

This course examines, explains and demonstrates all of the important methods of automated testing
and what they have to offer. It will provide all the information you need, from basic to advanced, to gain real, measurable benefits from test automation.
Objectives:
- appreciate the role of automated testing tools in addressing the increasing testing load created by the growing volumes and types of software and ways of developing it
- understand how test automation can be achieved and the challenges to successful
implementation
- know how the most important types of test automation work and are used
- be able to recognise when the use of test automation is appropriate and how to evaluate the suitability of products and approaches for use in specific situations
- understand why and how test automation must be used in the context of an overall test process and in conjunction with formal test planning and design
Intended for: anyone using or considering the use of test automation
Key points
- how test automation is evolving and adapting in parallel with testing trends
- managing the use of automation, and using automation to aid management
- creating automated tests and test suites
- re-use and maintenance of tests
- advanced techniques for achieving success: object mapping, data driven testing, modular test design, pattern matching and fuzzy logic
- deciding whether and what test automation is appropriate for specific testing work
- a formal process for evaluating and selecting approaches and products
- organising roll-out and adoption of test automation
