Risk-Based Testing in Practice Two days
There is a great deal of talk about risk-based testing, but few testers have a method for applying it and few test planners understand how to identify and analyze the relevant risks. Risk-based testing requires knowledge not only of testing but also of risk and its analysis. This course introduces this knowledge, explaining how to identify and analyze the risks and how to apply the results to achieve effective testing. It teaches not only methodical risk analysis but also the psychological biases in humans that influence it.

This course, created and presented by Felix Redmill, develops ability to analyze risk and plan testing based on that analysis. Three approaches to risk-based testing are taught. The first is strategic, such that planning can be carried out well in advance. The second is tactical. The third is a combination of the two, and provides a way of making tactical adjustments to strategic plans when the need arises.

The risks addressed by testers are introduced before testing takes place, and the course includes a module on how to apply a risk-based testing approach at various stages in the development life cycle. This provides development personnel with means of achieving early risk identification and management, which can result in improved project and product control.
