This course teaches delegates to use the main review techniques.

A well conceived and executed programme of walkthroughs, informal reviews,
technical reviews and inspections will reduce the number of defects in all
types of deliverables from specifications to completed systems. The work
will also improve team morale, reduce the testing and debugging work as
well as increase the chance of earlier system delivery. However the only
problem with reviews, as Daniel Freedman once put it, are the other people
who attend. The seminar gives well needed practice in four techniques with
the focus on the interpersonal skills rather than the mechanics of the process.
Objectives:
The objectives of delegates attending this course are typically:
- to practice the main techniques
- to learn how to avoid the common faults
- to learn how to make the selected review process enjoyable, productive and effective
Intended for
All staff involved in the development and delivery of systems who attend or might need to attend reviews. This includes test analysts, developers and users.
Key points
- The theory of the four main techniques: the walkthrough, the informal
review, the technical review and the inspection. The strengths and
weaknesses of each, the suitability of each in different circumstances.

exercise.
- The technical review: the powerful and widely applicable technique, the key
points, the preparation, the running, the maintenance of focus, the
